Alumni Chapter Websites

In today’s digital age, organizations cannot be taken seriously without an online presence. The BGS Central Office is aware that not every chapter has someone ready with the time and knowledge to develop and maintain a website. We are also aware that volunteers can come and go, and a chapter that may have a gung-ho html jockey today, may find themselves without tomorrow.
To help make things a bit easier for chapters, the Society is pleased to offer a new option to Alumni Chapters that will make maintaining a website simpler than ever before. Chapters utilizing web hosting through the Central Office can now choose to have the WordPress content management system installed onto their sites, allowing chapter officers – even those without previous HTML training – to easily maintain the chapter’s web presence.
The platform is clean and easy to use, but is very adaptable and expandable. It requires no additional software on the users’ part as all site maintenance can be done through any web browser. WordPress is also very customizable. An endless variety of free templates are available online, as are countless plug-ins that can add great functionality.
The Central Office will provide chapters with a starter, BGS branded template, as well as some basic content. Once that is up and running, the keys (username and password) will be handed over to the chapter. Training sessions, using GoToMeeting, will also be made available to those chapters that request them.
The only expense to chapter’s is the first year of web hosting – currently $47.88.
It is the hope of the Central Office that any Alumni Chapter that has not entered the digital realm will take advantage of this opportunity.
