Promoting Your Chapter

The Challenge

Promoting your Beta Gamma Sigma alumni chapter is the key to its ultimate success. The more information that is provided to members in the geographic area - information about how the chapter operates, its events, and the variety of member benefits that go along with membership - the better the chance of the chapter's long term success.

One of the challenges of promotion is to remember the target: Beta Gamma Sigma members in the geographic area. The chapter is not open to everyone, only those elected to lifetime membership in the Society.

However, the challenge of targeting the audience carefully is also the very thing that makes members in your area a unique group. This group is different than a local alumni association because all members had to be "the best of the best" while in college. Because of this, the chapters provide a tremendous networking opportunity for those in the area: they can network with others who are high achievers in the world of business. As one past alumni chapter president put it, "With top graduates from business schools employed in a variety of fields and industries, Beta Gamma Sigma provides a unique professional network in the area."

Promotional Tools

There are a variety of ways to get the word out about the programs and events of the alumni chapter:

  • BetaNet Website
The Beta Gamma Sigma website contains a list of chapters with contact information, along with individual pages for each chapter. These pages provide links to the chapter's website (if one has been developed by the chapter), highlights upcoming chapter events (information must be provided to the Central Office), membership dues levels, and chapter contact information.
  • Broadcast Email
A large benefit for alumni chapters is the Central Office's ability to send broadcast email to members in a specific geographic area. While the postage for targeted mailings may be prohibitive, and phone campaigns long and difficult, broadcast emails target the intended audience quickly - and it's free.
  • BGS International ExchangeNewsletter
The BGS International Exchange is mailed three times per year by the Central Office to more than 100,000 select members, and more than 400,000 once per year. If the chapter has news or events that are newsworthy to the entire Beta Gamma Sigma audience, it is invited to submit an article idea to the Communications Director.
  • Phone Calls and Mailings to Members
The chapter can choose to promote the chapter through phone campaigns and mailings
