Is the Postal System Becoming Obsolete?

When was the last time you sent a letter in the mail? The U.S. Postal System has announced that it will close hundreds of mailing centers across the country in the wake of a $3.3 billion loss last quarter. Perhaps adding insult to injury, there are already rumors that the cost of postage stamps will rise again in the near future. And it's not just an issue in the United States. Similar news is becoming more common in countries around the world.

So what's really going on? And if the world is moving away from the good ol' letter and stamp, what will replace it?
