BGS Member Profile:
Yan E. Yanovskiy
President and Board Member, Bioenco Bioenergy Corporation

At the January 2012 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, Yan E. Yanovskiy, President and Board Member of Bioenco Bioenergy Corporation, discussed transforming the world by shaping new models. Yanovskiy’s effort to shape a new system for energy production in Russia makes him something of a model himself.

In late 2010, Yanovskiy and three partners created Bioenco Bioenergy Corporation to improve the state of Russia, a country constantly struggling to find new energy sources and ravaged by peat bog fires over the past decade. Bioenco, of which Yanovskiy is President, currently employs 400 people and is one of the country’s largest producers of peat, a highly organic material found in marshes and commonly used for fertilizer or fuel. The company sees the production cycle through from beginning to end.

BGS Members Giving Back Around the Globe

Given the increasingly international nature of Beta Gamma Sigma, and its worldwide commitment to recognizing business excellence, it should come as little surprise that Society members from 30 countries have participated in the BGS Gives Back Centennial Service Initiative. While this certainly illustrates the global impact that can be made by Beta Gamma Sigma members, we are just scratching the surface.

We are certain that much more work is being done, and many more great deeds are being accomplished by the BGS membership. We just don't know about it. But you can change that by taking a few minutes today to log into the BGS Gives Back site and document the hours that you have volunteered.

To do so, go to: betagammasigma.org/centennial/bgsgivesback.html

However you spend your volunteer time, BGS wants to know. Let's show the world just how philanthropic and giving the "Best in Business" can truly be.

Attention BGS Members:
As an extra incentive to "Give Back," all BGS members who log their hours on Tuttidaré will be entered into a drawing for an IdeaPad Tablet courtesy of Lenovo.

Log in today and BGS and Lenovo could soon be giving back to you!

The IdeaPad Tablet A1 is a compact yet rugged multimedia device that runs on the Android™ 2.3 operating system. Optimized for entertainment, the 7" A1 gives you the brilliant graphics and processing muscle you need to connect in style.

Elwell at Cape Horn
Professor Elwell joined BGS member Joyce Salter (BGS 1971, Kent State University) on a cruise of Patagonia. Here they are seen rounding Cape Horn, one of South America's most southern points.

This month in
BGS History:

Before 1994, the very best students of business at schools with regional accreditation but not specialized accreditation in business were denied honor society recognition. As a way to provide this recognition to these deserving students, the BGS Board of Governors established Sigma Beta Delta in January 1994. This action was the result of the Board’s belief that all the very top students of business should be honored. It also reflects the Society’s position that honor societies encourage students to be the very best they can be, regardless of the school they attend.

Beta Gamma Sigma is proud of the part it played in the establishment of Sigma Beta Delta, which will reach its 20th anniversary in 2014.
