Beth
E. Mooney
Chairman and CEO, KeyCorp
On May 1,
2011, Beth Mooney became chairman and CEO of KeyCorp
as well as the first woman to serve as CEO of a top-20
U.S. financial institution. In her position, Mooney
oversees approximately $89 billion in assets and over
15,000 employees.
KeyCorp
offers investment management, retail and commercial
banking, consumer finance and investment banking services
to people and companies in the United States as well
as to some international businesses. Mooney visits
the more than 1,000 KeyCorp branches in 14 states
on a regular basis, and she makes it a point to hold
company-wide town hall meetings via phone every quarter.
Joining
KeyCorp in 2006 as a vice chair and the head of Key
Community Banking, now Key Community Bank, Mooney
brought over 30 years of experience with retail banking,
commercial lending and real estate financing to the
company. Prior to her work with KeyCorp, she filled
the position of senior executive vice president at
AmSouth Bancorp, and, in 2004, she became AmSouth’s
chief financial officer.
Before joining
AmSouth, Mooney served as regional president of Bank
One Corporation in Akron and Dayton, Ohio, and then
as the president of Bank One Ohio’s operations.
Previous to her work with Bank One, she had served
in management positions with companies like Citicorp
Real Estate, Inc., Hall Financial Group and Republic
Bank in Texas.
Significantly
working to steer KeyCorp in the right direction, Mooney
helped the bank return to profitability in 2010-2011.
In March 2011, KeyCorp repaid $2.5 billion in TARP
funds.
Known for
personally answering each one of her emails, Mooney
is also active within the Cleveland community. She
serves as a board chairman for Neighborhood Progress,
Inc. and as a trustee and treasurer of the board for
the Musical Arts Association. Mooney also serves on
boards with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, the United
Way of Greater Cleveland and Ideastream. In 2011,
she was ranked as #96 on Forbes’ list of “The
100 Most Powerful Women in the World.”
Mooney earned
her bachelor degree in history from the University
of Texas in 1977 and her MBA degree from Southern
Methodist University in 1983. |
