BGS Member Profile:
Joan Freilich, Former CFO,
Consolidated Edison, Inc.

When the CFO of Consolidated Edison, Inc. in New York retired in 1996, Joan Freilich was waiting in the wings as a candidate well-groomed for the position.

"It was a big accomplishment for a woman. There have been a number of women CFOs of utilities since then, but I was the first in a major utility."

Mark your calendars!
Beta Gamma Sigma has designated October 27, 2012 as an international Day of Service.

BGS is not partnering with a specific organization for this, but we’re encouraging members to find worthwhile causes in their own respective communities. Start thinking about how you want to volunteer now!

We also believe that things are done best when done together. So we hope you gather a few of your friends and family—BGS members or not—to join you in in giving back. The Society’s collegiate chapters AND alumni chapters are being encouraged to coordinate a time for BGS members to serve together on October 27th, which means that as an added bonus, this could be an excellent opportunity to connect with other lifetime members of Beta Gamma Sigma in your area!

BGS is a great Society filled with outstanding individuals. We look forward to hearing about all the things that you accomplish on October 27th.

BGS members! We want to track your community service hours throughout the Society's centennial year. Seem demanding? It's really not, because we know a lot of you are already doing something in your communities. But if you never log your hours on Tuttidaré, we will have no way of knowing about it!

Attention BGS Members:
As an extra incentive to "Give Back," all BGS members who log their our hours on Tuttidaré will be entered into a drawing for an IdeaPad Tablet courtesy of Lenovo.

Log in today and BGS and Lenovo could soon be giving back to you!

The IdeaPad Tablet A1 is a compact yet rugged multimedia device that runs on the Android™ 2.3 operating system. Optimized for entertainment, the 7" A1 gives you the brilliant graphics and processing muscle you need to connect in style.

Would you take a few minutes today to log into your account and document the hours each month that you volunteer (or, if you'd prefer, a cumulative guess for the year)?

Here's how to get involved with the initiative:

BGS History:

August 1937:
Because of the Society's lack of funds during the on-going Great Depression, T.R. Snavely, grand president of BGS from 1936-39, was asked to pay his own way from Virginia to California for the BGS Convention. During that Convention the induction fee was reduced from $10 to $6.

Five years later, the induction fee was further reduced to $5.
