Featured Speaker:
Beth E. Mooney
Chairman and CEO, KeyCorp

On May 1, 2011, Beth Mooney became chairman and CEO of KeyCorp as well as the first woman to serve as CEO of a top-20 U.S. financial institution. In her position, Mooney oversees approximately $89 billion in assets and over 15,000 employees.

Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, KeyCorp offers investment management, retail and commercial banking, consumer finance and investment banking services to people and companies in the United States as well as to some international businesses. Mooney visits the more than 1,000 KeyCorp branches in 14 states on a regular basis, and she makes it a point to hold company-wide town hall meetings via phone every quarter.

Joining KeyCorp in 2006 as a vice chair and the head of Key Community Banking, now Key Community Bank, Mooney brought over 30 years of experience with retail banking, commercial lending and real estate financing to the company. Prior to her work with KeyCorp, she filled the position of senior executive vice president at AmSouth Bancorp, and, in 2004, she became AmSouth’s chief financial officer.

Before joining AmSouth, Mooney served as regional president of Bank One Corporation in Akron and Dayton, Ohio, and then as the president of Bank One Ohio’s operations. Previous to her work with Bank One, she had served in management positions with companies like Citicorp Real Estate, Inc., Hall Financial Group and Republic Bank in Texas.

Significantly working to steer KeyCorp in the right direction, Mooney helped the bank return to profitability in 2010-2011. In March 2011, KeyCorp repaid $2.5 billion in TARP funds.

Known for personally answering each one of her emails, Mooney is also active within the Cleveland community. She serves as a board chairman for Neighborhood Progress, Inc. and as a trustee and treasurer of the board for the Musical Arts Association. Mooney also serves on boards with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, the United Way of Greater Cleveland and Ideastream. In 2011, she was ranked as #96 on Forbes’ list of “The 100 Most Powerful Women in the World.”

Mooney earned her bachelor degree in history from the University of Texas in 1977 and her MBA degree from Southern Methodist University in 1983.
