Role of the Installing Officer

A new chapter being established must have an installing officer at the ceremony. The installing officer must be a member of Beta Gamma Sigma. Chapters are encouraged to invite as the installing officer someone from outside the campus. Many chapters ask a neighboring school dean, BGS chapter officer or member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Board of Governors to serve in this role. Another option that is utilized by some newly accredited institutions is to invite a member of the school's accreditation team to serve as the installing officer. The expenses of the installing officer are covered by the chapter/institution.

The chapter is encouraged to work with the staff of the Central Office in the installing officer identification process. Staff can provide names and contact information for nearby deans, chapter officers and board members, as well as verify BGS membership of anyone a chapter may wish to invite to serve in this capacity.

Beta Gamma Sigma has no scripted installation ceremony. Rather, the role of the installing officer is to congratulate the school and the chapter on its establishment, to officially present the chapter's charter, and very often to serve as the presiding officer during the charter induction ceremony.
