Ethical Business Leadership in the Classroom

Beta Gamma Sigma will influence discussion about and the practice of ethical business behavior by gathering information about ethical business leadership and disseminating that information in useful ways to its alumni and collegiate members and chapters and to the broader business community world-wide.
-Mission of the Beta Gamma Sigma Center for Ethical Business Leadership

Given the size, geographical scope, and levels of responsibility achieved by the Society’s lifetime members, Beta Gamma Sigma has determined that the Society should serve its members and the business community by becoming an international resource for good ideas on incorporating ethical business practices into the very fabric of business enterprise. To that end, Beta Gamma Sigma has established the BGS Center for Ethical Business Leadership.

Through the Center, Beta Gamma Sigma seeks to join and inform the discussion about ethical business by focusing on those leadership strategies and actions that can make ethical business behavior fundamental to good business.

With this in mind, BGS has videotaped conversations with corporate leaders and ethics officers at a variety of corporations around the globe. These business leaders have shared insight into their companies’ efforts to develop and maintain ethical business cultures.

In addition to obtaining these interviews, BGS has sorted the interviews into a variety of topics and then posted hundreds of video segments from the interviews onto the Center’s website, EBLCenter.org.

Interview Topics Include:
 •
Essential Role of Leadership

 •
Management Tools and Practices for Business and Ethical Results
 •
Ethics and Partners: Vendors, Customers, Business Service Providers
 •
Shaping the Organizational Culture for EBL
 •
What Happens When Things Go Wrong
 •
Regulation, Litigation, and Building a Commitment to Ethical Business Practice
 •
Anecdotes with an Impact
 •
Global Strategies, Overseas Partners, and Cultural Differences
 •
Finding the Right Employees
 •
Ethical Behavior in an Economic Downturn

Beta Gamma Sigma encourages faculty to take advantage of the resources available through the site, and promotes the use of the Center’s video clips within the business classroom.

Additionally, BGS has created a DVD and classroom guide that we would like to provide to interested faculty for use in their classrooms. To obtain a copy of the 2011 DVD and Classroom Program Guide please contact Mary Wiedman in the BGS Central Office at mwiedman@betagammasigma.org.

Please assist the Society by informing other faculty within your department about the Beta Gamma Sigma Center for Ethical Business Leadership and its various resources for the classroom.
