The BGS Store
BGSStore.org is your online resource for official Beta Gamma Sigma membership, apparel and regalia. Encourage your students to display their BGS pride by wearing official Beta Gamma Sigma apparel and regalia, including the Society's hooded sweatshirt and Nike cap (see images below). Whether it's logo apparel or graduation merchandise, the BGS Store is your resource for all BGS items.
Recognize Member Achievements through the B-Zine
Highlighting accomplishments of lifetime members is a priority of Beta Gamma Sigma, and with the Centennial right around the corner, we are taking another step toward member recognition with the monthly distribution of the B-Zine. Beginning in 2012, the B-Zine, Beta Gamma Sigma's email magazine, will be dedicated to acknowledging achievements of lifetime members through a series of member profiles.
These profiles will focus on inductees of the past and present who have not only achieved success in their careers, but have also made extra efforts in their community. If you know of any recent graduates who deserve special recognition, please contact Seth Treptow at streptow@betagammasigma.org.
Emergency Membership Loan Fund
To assist students who cannot afford the Beta Gamma Sigma membership fee, several BGS chapters have created a special fund (or have access to funds) to cover this cost. Some of these chapters indicate students re-pay the fee in the future when they are established in their careers. We hope that more BGS chapters will consider creating a similar fund.
For students invited to membership who cannot afford the membership fee and the chapter cannot cover the fee locally, the Society has established the Beta Gamma Sigma Emergency Membership Loan Fund to assist eligible students to obtain membership.
If your chapter has students who need assistance through this loan fund, please contact Donna Binek at dbinek@betagammasigma.org for details.
Bronze Key
The Board of Governors of Beta Gamma Sigma encourages chapters to consider adding this symbol of excellence to their physical plant. The Key can be mounted either indoors or outdoors. The base should be obtained or built locally. Plans for a cast concrete base are available from the Central Office, but native stone or other materials may be used.
The Central Office Staff is prepared to assist chapters in fund raising efforts by providing contact information for BGS alumni of the chapter or potential donors in the area of institution.
For more information concerning the purchase of the BGS Key for display on your campus, please contact James Viehland at jviehland@betagammasigma.org
B-Mail keeps you connected
Direct communication with our members and chapters is a high priority. Beta Gamma Sigma uses the web site, betagammasigma.org, social media outlets and printed publications to keep members informed of Society news, as well as provide them with numerous career resources.
College chapter officers need to watch for when an e-mail from Beta Gamma Sigma indicates "B-Mail" in the subject line and make sure to open and read it. Officers also need to watch for the Connection, which is sent out twice a year. Both B-Mail and the Connection contain information useful to chapters, including reminders and information on new programs that only take a short time to read.
B-Mail is sent year round, with more frequent communication taking place during the school semesters and other active periods.
To make sure you and other chapter officers and administrators receive the Connection and B-Mail, please add bgshonors@betagammasigma.org to your e-mail contact list. If this step is not taken, e-mail spam filters can prevent the B-Mail from being delivered.
Waiver of membership fee for Doctoral Completing Students
Beta Gamma Sigma’s Board of Governors recently adopted a policy change to waive the membership fee for students who earn a doctorate in business (degree received on or after January 24, 2009). The Society recognizes many of these new doctorates will become faculty members at BGS chapter schools and could be advocates for the Society on their campuses.
For students who earned a doctorate degree from an AACSB accredited program who accept the invitation, their 65 USD membership fee is waived. All doctoral students should be invited to membership using the special doctoral invitation packet available to your chapter through Central Office. Contact Donna Binek at dbinek@betagammasigma.org for more details on the process.
We realize that most doctorates are no longer on campus, so please consider contacting the doctoral program director to see if they can offer BGS membership as part of the final details of degree completion.
Honorary Membership for Chapter Advisors
Individuals who serve as a chapter advisor and who do not otherwise qualify for membership may be inducted as honorary members upon recommendation by the head of the business unity. Please contact Donna Binek at dbinek@betagammasigma.org for specifics on this process
Survey of Member Acceptance
As a reminder, each chapter is required to complete and submit the 2011-12 Survey of Member Acceptance and Chapter Promotional Activities.
This self-reporting mechanism determines if the chapter is named Premier or Exemplary and pre-qualifies chapters for participation in Beta Gamma Sigma's Scholarship Program as well as the Society's Outstanding Chapter and Outstanding Chapter Advisor Competitions. Completion of this form in a timely manner also assists the Central Office with planning for chapters for 2011-12
The form can be downloaded at http://www.betagammasigma.org/Forms/survey10-11.doc
Deadline for submission is October 3!
