2006-07 BGS Successes

As you prepare to make the 2007-08 year the best ever on your campus for Beta Gamma Sigma and your best business students, the Central Office wanted to let you know about some of the successes from 2006-07. Of course, those are truly your successes, as the Society could not function and thrive without the tireless efforts of its chapter advisors. The Central Office – and the entire honor society – owes each and every one of you a great deal of thanks.

Online Ordering System

The most visible and obvious change that occurred last year was the development and rollout of the BGS Online Ordering System (OOS). After decades of operating with a paper-based system to prepare and complete the membership order process, Beta Gamma Sigma directed resources to develop a more efficient electronic system. As with any radical change, there were bumps in the road and lessons to be learned – for both the chapter advisors and the Central Office. However, with the strong partnership between the Central Office and its chapter officers, the 2007-08 version of OOS will be adjusted to reflect the many great suggestions that you provided.

But the system worked pretty well last year, too, especially considering it was rolled out to all 460+ chapters for the first time in the spring semester. Beta Gamma Sigma chapters inducted a near-record total of new members – 20,990. With the new OOS system, those members were added to our database and could enjoy the benefits of membership within days of the Central Office receiving their names and information, as opposed to the weeks and months it used to take for us to manually input all the information. Again, thank you for your patience, questions, suggestions and efforts in making this transition very successful.

New Chapters

Beta Gamma Sigma was very happy to welcome 11 new collegiate chapters into the fold. As most of you know, when a business school achieves accreditation by AACSB International, it is automatically invited to install a BGS chapter on campus. The following schools added chapters in the last year:
Virginia State University
North Carolina Central University
Utah Valley State College
Delaware State University
University of Illinois at Springfield
North Georgia College and State University
Shenandoah University
University of Wisconsin-River Falls
Grambling State University
Siena College
Sacred Heart University
