BGS Centennial Celebration

As we get closer to February 19, 2013, Beta Gamma Sigma continues to celebrate the Centennial year through a number of different programs, speaker events, initiatives and more. These programs and events allow our 700,000+ members from all over the world to take part in celebrating the Society’s Centennial year.

Thanks to the help of the BGS collegiate chapters, quite a few of these programs have attracted supporters and participants. Get involved, and plan to be a part of the BGS Centennial celebration!

Centennial Education Webinar

Save the Date! In addition to the Society's Founders' Week webinar, the BGS Central Office has scheduled a webinar just for collegiate chapter officers for early October. This online training session will provide collegiate chapters with more information about the Society's Centennial Celebration efforts and suggestions of how collegiate chapters can get involved. Please mark your calendars, and make plans to join us online for one of these sessions. Additional information about the Centennial webinar will be in upcoming B-mails.

Centennial Resource Kits

Did you receive your chapter’s Centennial Resource Kit? To help celebrate the BGS Centennial efforts during the 2012-2013 academic year, Centennial Resource Kits were sent to each chapter in July! If you did not receive a kit, please check with your shipping department or mailroom. You are going to want this unique and special kit, which includes sample Centennial items (pins, stickers, ribbons, magnets, CD, DVD, etc.), ideas and resources that we encourage you to use with your students, on campus, and in your community to celebrate and bring awareness to the BGS Centennial. We’ve also included a very cool BGS Centennial table-top banner. Display this in your office, at information sessions, at events and at your ceremony!

If you have any questions about the Centennial Resource Kit please contact Amber Nicholson at anicholson@betagammasigma.org

Fayette H. Elwell was selected the very first president of Beta Gamma Sigma on Feb. 19, 1913 at the first biennial convention of the new Honor Society. He held titles of importance with the Society for eight years and was named Beta Gamma Sigma’s “Honorary Grand President” during the BGS 50-year celebration. Now, an additional 50 years later, BGS wants to recognize the significance of Professor Elwell’s contribution to the Honor Society through this special photo contest.

BGS Gives Back and BGS Day of Service

Save the date for October 27, 2012! On this day, we are asking collegiate chapters, alumni chapters and our members to get involved, give time and make a difference.  We suggest finding out if there is an event going on in your local community and if it is possible that the collegiate chapter could be part of this. There are many worthy organizations that are in need of volunteers.
The collegiate chapter might want to consider sponsoring and coordinating a service project and then invite people from the community (coworkers, family, friends, classmates, etc.) to join and participate in the day.  This could be great opportunity to get more people involved in a service opportunity, bring awareness to BGS and, ultimately, give back.

Watch for more information on the BGS Day of Service to come out soon. Find more info about BGS Gives Back and this particular day at: http://www.betagammasigma.org/centennial/bgsgivesback.html

Meet the Leaders of Business Centennial Speaker Series

Coordinated as a unique opportunity for BGS and its members during the Centennial celebration, the Meet the Leaders of Business Speaker Series presents a number of different top business professionals who share their best insights, experience and advice with the “Best in Business.” Beth Mooney, Chairman and CEO of KeyCorp, spoke at the July 26 speaker event in Cleveland. Upcoming speakers include Denise Morrison, President and CEO of Campbell Soup Company, in October, Virginia McDowell, President and CEO of Isle of Capri Casinos, in November and Gary Burnison, CEO of Korn/Ferry International, on the Founder’s Day, February 19.

If you or your members cannot attend the speaker events, satellite events can be held in conjunction with the speaker series, which will allow interested members from a large variety of locations to connect with fellow members and take part in Meet the Leaders of Business. Those watching via satellite will even be able to interact with the presenter and ask questions, just as if they were there in person. Recordings of the speaker events will also be posted at the BGS website afterward. Contact Seth Treptow at streptow@betagammasigma.org to find out more about this series and how to set up a satellite event for your chapter.

Founders' Week
February 17-23, 2013

Don’t forget to start planning for Founder’s Day on February 19, 2013! While BGS will host its last Meet the Leaders of Business Speaker Series event on this day in Malibu, California, chapters are encouraged to host events on this day and even tune into the Meet the Leaders of Business Speaker Series event via satellite webcast.

During Founders’ Week, which lasts from February 17-23, 2013, chapters can also attend Beta Gamma Sigma’s Founders’ Week Webinar. This is an international event and can accommodate up to 1,000 participants. There will also be a 24-Hour Live Chat, where members and advisors can ask questions about Beta Gamma Sigma (and as many questions as they want) for an entire day.

If chapters cannot participate in these special events as groups, we ask that you encourage your chapter members to take part in one or two of these Founders' Week happenings.

Founders’ Week Promotion and Celebration Ideas for Your Chapter:

-Host a BGS event and watch the Founders’ Week Webinar at a specific location on campus
-Display a BGS banner on campus. For more information on these, contact Donna Binek at dbinek@betagammasigma.org.
-Display BGS posters in prominent school or campus locations
-Set up a BGS table somewhere on campus so that students can obtain information about Beta Gamma Sigma and the Society’s Founders’ Week.
-Announce a Beta Gamma Sigma “Professor of the Year”
