Survey
of BGS Membership
Who
are Beta Gamma Sigma members?
That
was the question at the core of an online survey conducted in October
2006 by BusinessWeek Research Services on behalf of Beta Gamma
Sigma. The following are a few excerpts from the results:
- BGS
members are young (average age 39), hold higher degrees (63% have
master’s degree or better), are highly affluent (average HHI
$135,900) and one out of five BGS members hold the title of senior
executive (23%).
- Members
and their families are active participants in a variety of organizations.
They belong to alumni (63%) or professional (59%) associations, other
honor society organizations (49%), health clubs (48%) and nonprofit
social organizations (47%).
- Managing
their career aspirations and finances are important to BGS members.
However, BGS members say appearing confident and motivated, having
a satisfying personal life, and respecting the ideas of others are
stronger signals of success than wealth alone.
- Three
out of five (59%) BGS members have used or participated in one or
more programs or services offered by BGS, and many have visited BetaNet,
Beta Gamma Sigma’s website (39%). Members say that membership
would be improved with features like job search/employee recruitment
matching (55%), networking (53%) and special discounts (45%).
-
Three-fifths
(57%) of the members have read at least one or more of the last
4 issues of Beta Gamma Sigma International Exchange magazine.
- Four
out of five (83%) magazine readers noticed advertising in the
magazine and nearly half (46%) took some action based on the
ads (visit websites, referred or used information, sent for
information on product/program advertised, etc.).
