Founders’ Week – BGS 96th Anniversary

Founders' Week is less than a month away, and you should begin now to think about how your chapter might celebrate the occasion on your campus.

February 19, 2009 will mark Beta Gamma Sigma's 96th anniversary as an Honor Society.

Each Beta Gamma Sigma chapter is asked to celebrate this occasion during Founders' Week, February 15-21, 2009.

BGS Ethical Business Leadership Program – Free to Collegiate Chapters

A great way for your chapter to celebrate Founders’ Week this year is by planning an Ethical Business Leadership Program. For the first time, Beta Gamma Sigma has produced a DVD entitled, “Ethical Business Leadership: Chapter Program”, which can be obtained for free. All you have to do is request a copy by emailing us at eblcenter@betagammasigma.org. This ready-made, easy-to-use program provides clips of corporate executives explaining how their organizations have developed, maintained and enhanced their ethical cultures. Beta Gamma Sigma believes leadership is the key component in this, and the DVD provides real examples of the leaders of Xerox, Campbell Soup, Chick-fil-A and others explaining why this is important to them.

The DVD is split up into four chapters:

  • Leading by Example;
  • An Ethical DNA;
  • Ethics and Advancement;
  • Maintaining a Culture of Ethics.

Your chapter can choose two or more of these topics, play the DVD for these sections, and invite business leaders from your area to discuss how they handle these important issues. You should provide the opportunity for questions and answers, which should get student members (and non-member business students) thinking about and discussing this critical topic. If your chapter chooses to take part in this event, please plan to take pictures and let us know how it goes.

Other Ideas for Founders’ Week

Another great way your chapter can spread the word about Beta Gamma Sigma this Founders' Week is by displaying a BGS banner on campus. In the past, the design and purchase of these items have been costly and time consuming. With custom banner printing from the BGS Central Office, this is no longer the case.

For a fraction of the price that it costs to order similar banners at a commercial print shop, chapters can order one of the four styles of banners, each available in two sizes: 45" (W) x 12" (H) and 90"(W) x 24" (H).

Please contact Donna Binek in the Central Office for information on ordering custom banners (dbinek@betagammasigma.org) - more information can also be found at http://www.betagammasigma.org/bannerprinting.htm.

If your chapter has not made plans for Founders' Week, don't worry. Here are a few other suggested ways to commemorate the occasion:

  • Promote the opening of the new BGS Center for Ethical Business Leadership (www.eblcenter.org)

  • Host a reception for business majors or honors students.

  • Announce a Beta Gamma Sigma Professor of the Year.

  • Display Beta Gamma Sigma posters in prominent business school locations.

  • Display the Founder's Day PowerPoint Presentation

  • Set up a table to hand out BGS Information Cards and Brochures. Please contact Donna Binek in the Central Office for information on ordering Information Cards and Brochures (dbinek@betagammasigma.org).

  • Tap (invite in classes) qualifying students/faculty for membership.

Celebrating BGS Founders' Week is not limited to suggestions from the Central Office - be creative and let the Central Office know how your chapter celebrated Founders' Week 2009!
