BGS Scholarship Program
Chapters must submit the Confirmation of Participation to the Central Office by January 30, 2009 in order to participate in the 2009 BGS Scholarship Program. We do not need the name of the recipient at that time, but notice must be given of the chapter’s intent to participate. The form can be returned to Peggy Barnum at pbarnum@betagammasigma.org or faxed to 314-432-7083. Chapters must have been named either Premier or Exemplary Chapters in 2008. (NOTE: More than $1.4 million has been distributed by the BGS Scholarship Program since its inception, including more than $140,000 in 2008 alone.)

Beta Gamma Sigma B-Mail
Beta Gamma Sigma wanted to remind its Chapter Representatives that the BGS B-Mail, sent regularly by email to chapter contacts, is very important. We realize the Society sends out much information, and while we hope you are interested in all of it, it is vital that you read the B-Mail each time it is sent. It contains up-to-date information on all things important to collegiate chapters. This includes deadlines, programs, tips and best practices to make the chapters as successful as possible.
To make this easier, “B-Mail” will be in the subject line of each issue. Please be sure you read it each time so you are up-to-date on Society news and programs.
Virtual Career Fair (VCF) and Virtual Graduate School Fair (VGSF)
In September 2008 , Beta Gamma Sigma held its first-ever Virtual Career Fair and Virtual Graduate School Fair. Over 12,000 unique visitors participated in the online programs, connecting with 26 top notch employers and 77 of the best graduate programs in the world.
Due to the success of this initial program, Beta Gamma Sigma will offer its members a second chance to connect with those businesses and business schools looking to recruit the best. The Spring 2009 Virtual Career and Virtual Graduate School Fairs will be held February 16 - March 1, 2009.
This is a tremendous opportunity for your students and alumni if they’re looking for a job, or if they are considering different graduate programs. All the employers have specifically indicated they are interesting in attracting BGS job applicants, while each of the schools is AACSB accredited and knows the value of the Beta Gamma Sigma lifetime membership.
Scholarship Plaques
Many chapters have called the Central Office
to let us know they have filled the original
Scholarship Plaque (Perpetual Plaque) that
was sent the first year the chapter participated
in the Scholarship Program. This is great
news, because it means many chapters are
providing a Beta Gamma Sigma scholarship
each year to a deserving student. If you
chapter has filled the Scholarship Plaque
– or is getting close – you
can order a new one from the Supply Order
tab of the Online Ordering System (OOS)
at www.bgschapterservices.org.
This is known as the “Perpetual Plaque”
on the site, and can be found at the very
bottom of the form. The Central Office will
continue creating and sending an engraved
plate with the name of your chapter’s
scholarship recipient if you purchase this
replacement plaque.
Please contact Donna Binek at dbinek@betagammasigma.org
with any questions on this or any other
chapter issue.
Chapter Supplies
This Spring chapters should continue to
order all chapter supplies through the BGS
Online Ordering System (OOS) at www.bgschapterservices.org.
Personal items and gift items, including
logo merchandise and apparel, will continue
to be offered through the Beta Gamma Sigma
Store at www.bgsstore.org.
Bylaws
Change – Honorary Membership for Chapter
Advisors
At the recommendation of the Board of Governors, Beta Gamma Sigma chapters approved the following change to the bylaws effective July 1, 2008:
Individuals who serve as chapter advisor and who do not otherwise qualify for membership may be inducted as honorary members upon recommendation by the head of the business unit. Contact Donna Binek at dbinek@betagammasigma.org for specifics on this process.
The Central Office Staff is prepared to assist chapters in fund raising efforts by providing contact information for BGS alumni of the chapter or potential donors in the area of the institution.
