Highlights from the 2008-09 BGS Junior Surveys

During
the summer of 2009, Beta Gamma Sigma surveyed
approximately 300 newly inducted juniors to
understand their needs and learn how to better
serve them in the future. Members were asked
to complete a series of surveys on various topics,
including:
-
awareness of BGS and its
opportunities/programs;
-
perceptions about their
invitation and induction process;
-
value of BGS member benefits;
career and graduate school plans;
-
and expectations of ethics
and leadership in business.
This spring,
as many chapters will be preparing to invite
and induct a new class of members, it seems
appropriate to share the highlights and insights
gained regarding Beta Gamma Sigma’s Invitation
Process.
BGS Invitation
Process Survey Highlights:
- Only 1/3 believed they understood the
value of BGS when invited.
- A majority of the students indicated they
would like the invitation to join BGS to
be more formal to more adequately reflect
the honor.
- Students would like to receive further
encouragement from faculty and advisors
to positively reinforce the invitation and
its meaning.
- 90% of those students invited through
an in-class tapping ceremony indicated this
positively influenced their decision to
accept membership.
