BGS Scholarship Program
To participate in the 2012 BGS Scholarship program, chapters must confirm their participation with the Central Office by January 31, 2012. At this time, you do not need to provide the recipient's name; however, notice is required of the chapter's intent to participate. Only those chapters named Premier or Exemplary Chapters in 2011 are eligible to participate.
Outstanding Chapter
Chapters that qualify to compete in the 2012 "BGS Outstanding Chapter" competition MUST submit their electronic application to the Central Office by February 17, 2012. Only those chapters named Premier Chapters in 2011 are eligible.
Outstanding Chapter Advisor Award
Sponsored by the Bloomberg Businessweek B-School Connection
Applications for the "BGS Outstanding Chapter Advisor" program MUST be submitted by February 17, 2012. Eligible chapters were named either Premier or Exemplary Chapters in 2011.
New Collegiate Chapters Installed
Beta Gamma Sigma is proud to announce the installation of two new collegiate chapters. The Society formally welcomed chapters at Universidad del Turabo and the Univerity of Maryland Eastern Shore during ceremonies held in the fall of 2011.
2012 BGS Biennial Meeting and Deans’ Recognition Luncheon
The 2012 BGS Biennial Meeting and Deans’ Recognition Luncheon will be held Sunday, April 29, 2012 in San Diego, California at 1:00pm in conjunction with the International Conference and Annual Meeting of AACSB International.
The BGS Biennial Meeting includes the announcement of official business to chapter representatives and the election of new officers and members of the Board of Governors. Each collegiate chapter is entitled to send one voting delegate to the Biennial Meeting. While the chapter may choose their delegate, it is recommended the collegiate chapters be represented by an individual who is scheduled to attend the Annual Meeting of AACSB International (ICAM) – usually, the Dean of the School of Business.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about Beta Gamma Sigma and for deans to meet with colleagues in an informal setting before the start of the ICAM sessions.
A formal invitation with more details about the meeting and luncheon will be delivered to collegiate chapters in February.
BGS Bronze Key
The Beta Gamma Sigma Key can be a symbol of academic excellence on your campus.
The Board of Governors of Beta Gamma Sigma encourages chapters to consider adding this symbol of academic excellence to their physical plant. The Key can be mounted either indoors or outdoors. The base should be obtained or built locally. Plans for a cast concrete base are available from the Central Office, but native stone or other materials may be used.
The Central Office Staff is prepared to assist chapters in fundraising efforts by providing contact information for BGS alumni of the chapter or potential donors in the area of the institution.
For information concerning the purchase of the BGS Key for display on your campus, please contact James Viehland, Executive Director, at jviehland@betagammasigma.org or download the informational Bronze Key flyer.
B-Mails
College chapter officers need to watch for when an e-mail from Beta Gamma Sigma indicates "B-Mail" in the subject line and make sure to open and read it. B-Mails contain information useful to chapters, including reminders and information on new programs that only take a short time to read.
B-Mails aresent year round, with more frequent communication taking place during the school semesters and other active periods.
To make sure you and other chapter officers and administrators receive the Connection and B-Mail, please add bgshonors@betagammasigma.org to your e-mail contact list. If this step is not taken, e-mail spam filters can prevent the B-Mail from being delivered.
