The BGS Centennial Celebration

Beta Gamma Sigma continues to celebrate the Centennial year through a number of different Centennial Celebration-related programs, speaker events, initiatives and more. Make sure to read about all of these projects below, find out how to get your chapter involved and take part in these many ways to celebrate the Centennial.

Get involved, and plan to be a part of the BGS Centennial Celebration!

Meet the Leaders of Business Centennial Speaker Series

Beta Gamma Sigma recognizes the importance of letting the “Best in Business” learn from the best of business. Consequently, the Society has put together a special speaker series program as a gift to its members as part of the Centennial celebration. Already, members have had the opportunity to hear from Beth Mooney, CEO and Chairman of KeyCorp, Denise Morrison, President and CEO of Campbell Soup Company and Virginia McDowell, President and CEO of Isle of Capri Casinos.

On Founders' Day, February 19, 2013, Gary Burnison, the CEO of Korn/Ferry International, will speak to BGS members as the last featured speaker of the Meet the Leaders of Business Centennial Speaker Series. While the live event will take place at Pepperdine University in California, all members should be able to watch this event via their own computers through an online connection.

Beta Gamma Sigma will also hold satellite events in conjunction with this event, allowing participants from a variety of locations to come together, network with fellow lifetime members, view the video simulcast and interact with the presenter, just as if they were there in person.

To find out how your chapter can be a host chapter, please contact Natalie Oesch at noesch@betagammasigma.org.

BGS Is Everywhere Centennial Photo Project

Professor Elwell has been travelling to far more locations around the world over the last few months thanks to the Centennial photo contest, "BGS is Everywhere." He's visited places like Hawaii, Myanmar, New Orleans and many, many other locations!

A printable version of Elwell is available at the BGS website. Send in your photos to the central office via an exclusive submission section online. Special awards are given out monthly to those who have particularly unique or creative photos with Professor Elwell. Photos are also displayed on Professor Elwell’s Facebook page. Members are encouraged to follow the Centennial mascot on both Facebook and Twitter in order to view photos, discover Centennial facts and communicate with others who are “Celebrating a Century of Excellence” with BGS.

Fayette H. Elwell was selected the very first president of Beta Gamma Sigma on Feb. 19, 1913 at the first biennial convention of the new Honor Society. He held titles of importance with the Society for eight years and was named Beta Gamma Sigma’s “Honorary Grand President” during the BGS 50-year celebration. Now, an additional 50 years later, BGS wants to recognize the significance of Professor Elwell’s contribution to the Honor Society through this special photo contest.

BGS Gives Back

Beta Gamma Sigma is so proud of the many, many members who have already served their communities in honor of the Society's 100th year anniversary. But, for those who have not yet served or recorded their hours, there's still time! Make sure to go to our site and learn about the Centennial Service Initiative, "BGS Gives Back."

A special online tracking system will allow members to login and report their community service hours. Members are encouraged to log their service from February 19, 2012 to March 1, 2013. One lucky--and randomly chosen--person will also win a Lenovo IdeaPad tablet, just for entering their service hours into the tracking system. For more information on BGS Gives Back, please visit our site here.

Get those hours turned in soon! The deadline for all hours is March 1, 2013.

Founders' Week
February 17-23, 2013

Don’t forget to start planning for Founder’s Day on February 19, 2013! While BGS will host its last Meet the Leaders of Business Speaker Series event on this day in Malibu, California, chapters are encouraged to host events and even tune into the Meet the Leaders of Business Speaker Series event via satellite webcast.

During Founders’ Week, which lasts from February 17-23, 2013, chapters can also attend Beta Gamma Sigma’s Founders’ Week Webinar. This is an international event and can accommodate up to 1,000 participants. There will also be a 24-Hour Live Chat, where members and advisors can ask questions about Beta Gamma Sigma (and as many questions as they want) for an entire day.

If chapters cannot participate in these special events as groups, we ask that you encourage your chapter members to take part in one or two of these Founders' Week happenings.

Founders’ Week Promotion and Celebration Ideas for Your Chapter:

-Host a BGS event and watch the Founders’ Week Webinar at a specific location on campus
-Display a BGS banner on campus. For more information on these, contact Donna Binek at dbinek@betagammasigma.org.
-Display BGS posters in prominent school or campus locations
-Set up a BGS table somewhere on campus so that students can obtain information about Beta Gamma Sigma and the Society’s Founders’ Week.
-Announce a Beta Gamma Sigma “Professor of the Year”

Special Certificate for 100th Anniversary

In order to honor Beta Gamma Sigma's Centennial year, those individuals inducted into the Society in 2013 will receive a special 100th anniversary certificate.

Also, chapter advisors and those involved with Beta Gamma Sigma induction ceremonies should know that a Centennial-themed preamble is available for use during all induction ceremonies this year as well. Please find this unique 2013 induction preamble here.
