Centennial Spirit in the Second Century

BGS continues to celebrate

During its Centennial year, Beta Gamma Sigma planned and executed several programs that brought BGS members together around the world. As we move into our second century, Beta Gamma Sigma plans to continue the following programs as legacy events that will foster the BGS spirit among members and chapters.

Meet the Leaders of Business
New locations, top-rated speakers, and topics will be explored as Beta Gamma Sigma continues its guest speaker series. The Central Office will soon send more information and an application to all universities with BGS chapters. Please look for this and consider arranging for you school to take part! The four universities last year had an excellent experience with the program and received a lot of beneficial publicity for their event.

The BGS Mascot, Professor Elwell
We enjoyed keeping up with Professor Elwell's travels over the last year and loved being able to share all these wonderful photos with you. In March, we announced the winners of the Centennial photo contest, which you can view online here: http://www.betagammasigma.org/centennial/cb/0313/awards.htm
BGS will continue to accept submissions from BGS members featuring Professor Elwell and will continue to share them in the Society's publications and through social media. We hope that Elwell will be on Facebook another 100 years! To submit your own, or to view hundreds of other photos featuring the Society's Centennial mascot Professor Elwell, visit the BGS is Everywhere page located at: http://www.betagammasigma.org/centennial/bie.html

BGS Gives Back Day of Service: October 26, 2013
During fall 2012, BGS members across the country read to inner-city students, built wheelchair ramps, and everything in between. The Day of Service will continue with hope that more chapters will rally around a common cause and give back their talent and time. Save the date—October 26, 2013—as a day to give back with BGS members.

Two lucky BGS members received Lenovo tablets in March for logging hours toward the BGS Gives Back project on Tutttidare.org. A special thanks to Lenovo for supporting the project in this way. Beta Gamma Sigma is proud to announce Dan House and Rose Syengo as the winners of this special drawing. Thanks to everyone who Gave Back as part of the BGS Centennial.

Chapter Honoree Awards

Chapter Advisors, if you are wanting to nominate someone as a BGS Chapter Honoree, please remember that you MUST complete the Chapter Honoree form AND add the honoree's name to the Online Ordering System. Additionally, please mark them as "paid" and make sure the MDP is then completed.

Allow at lest three weeks for the award-ordering process. The award and four signature certificates and pins will be sent to you with your first or second order of membership certificates, once we receive the Chapter Honoree form and the MDP is completed.

Here are the steps for the Chapter Honoree programs:

  1.  Complete the Chapter Honoree form (found at this link: http://www.betagammasigma.org/chapterhonoree.htm ) and email to Donna Binek.
  2. Enter the name of the Chapter Honoree on your OOS site, choosing ‘Chapter Honoree’ as the type and then marking them as paid.
  3. The MDP needs to be completed as soon as possible.  This will generate the certificate for the award.  This can be completed by the Chapter Advisor or the Chapter Honoree.

Any questions about the Chapter Honoree program can be directed to Donna Binek, Collegiate Chapter Associate, at dbinek@betagammasigma.org.

Interested in becoming an Outstanding Chapter? The following ideas and suggestions were provided by Beta Gamma Sigma's Outstanding Chapters. Feel free to incorporate them at your school's chapter.

>>Coordinate an Ethics in Business program with real life examples of business dilemmas or role-plays.

>>Host a Founders' Day luncheon, and invite BGS members from the President's and Dean's Lists.

>>Provide BGS regalia (cords, stoles, medallions) to wear at graduation.

>>Nominate, nominate, nominate for the Medallion for Entrepreneuship, Business Achievement Awards, Outstanding Chapter and Outstanding Chapter Advisor!

>>Make the BGS invitation process highly visible. Extend the tapping ceremony out over four days during Founders' Week. Or, purchase a BGS bronze key to display on campus.
