Beta Gamma
Sigma is pleased to announce a significant milestone event for the honor
society. With a total of approximately 400 collegiate chapters, the
Society installed its first chapter on the European continent at Instituto
de Empresa in Madrid, Spain. With Dennis Weidenaar, Beta Gamma Sigma's
president, on-hand for the chapter’s installation and initial
induction ceremony, December 16, 2003, was an important date for the
Institute and for Beta Gamma Sigma.
The significance
of the installation for Instituto de Empresa was highlighted by the
placement of its announcement. The school’s website featured information
about the new chapter – and Beta Gamma Sigma – on the front
of its homepage. The Society
would like to congratulate Instituto de Empresa for joining Beta Gamma
Sigma in honoring the academic achievements of the world’s best
business scholars.
The following
was featured on the Instituto de Empresa homepage:
“On
16 December, Instituto de Empresa became the first European Collegiate
Chapter of the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) Honor Society, an organization
that awards top business students enrolled in programs accredited
by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate
Schools of Business. During the inauguration ceremony – presided
over by the President of Beta Gamma Sigma, Dr. Dennis Weidenaar and
BGS Executive Director, James Viehland – 40 IE students in the
top 20 percent of their class were inducted as lifetime members of
this prestigious society.
Beta Gamma Sigma was established in the U.S. in 1913 with the aim
of fostering and promoting excellence in the study and practice of
business throughout the world. The organization is rooted on the founding
principles of honor, integrity and the pursuit of wisdom, and supports
the advancement of business thought at the individual and societal
levels. At present, nearly 400 universities are members of this renowned
international organization.”
