Deans
John Wholihan (Loyola Marymount University), Melvin Stith (Syracuse
University) and Karen Boroff (Seton Hall University)
John Wholihan is the Dean of the College of Business and Administration
at Loyola Marymount University, where he has served on the school’s
faculty since 1984. He was elected to the post of Beta Gamma Sigma Vice
President in 2004 and will serve in that position through 2006.
Wholihan
started his professorial career in 1960 and, prior to joining the faculty
at LMU, served as the Associate Dean at Bradley University for five
years. While at Bradley, Wholihan served for several years as the Director
of the school’s MBA program and Director of the Small Business
Institute. In addition to his time at LMU and Bradley, Wholihan taught
for two years at American University.
He
received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame,
his MBA from Indiana University and his Ph.D. from American University.
Wholihan traveled to Brazil in 1976 as a Fulbright Scholar.
In addition
to his work with Loyola Marymount University and Beta Gamma Sigma, Wholihan
is also a member of the Academy of Management, Corporate and Non Profit
Boards of Directors, and AACSB International.
He is a past president of the International Association of Jesuit Business
Schools of Business and the Western Association of Collegiate Schools
of Business.
Melvin Stith was named Dean of the Whitman School of Management
at Syracuse University in January 2005. This is the second time Stith
has served as dean of a business school, having previously held the
post within the College of Business at Florida State University in Tallahassee,
Fla.
He has also
served as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Marketing
within the College of Business at Florida State University, Associate
Dean and Assistant Professor of the College of Business at the University
of South Florida, and Director of Graduate Programs at Syracuse University.
Stith received
his bachelor’s degree from Norfolk State University, and his MBA
and Ph.D. from Syracuse University.
A veteran
of the Vietnam War, Stith was a military intelligence officer for the
United States Army from 1968-1971. During his military tenure, he achieved
the rank of Captain.
Stith was
elected to the BGS Board of Governors in 2004 will serve through 2006.
Karen Boroff has served as Dean of Seton Hall University’s Stillman School of Business since 2000. Boroff was elected to the BGS Board of Governors in 2004 and is scheduled to serve on the board through 2008.
Boroff was the inaugural director of the Stillman School’s prestigious Leadership Studies Program, an honors program to enhance students’ leadership competencies. In this program, high achieving students develop their leadership abilities through interacting with corporate mentors.
Joining the Stillman School faculty in 1989 as an assistant professor in the Department of Management, Boroff was promoted to associate professor in 1995 and five years later was named a full professor. She also served as Associate Dean of the School, and implemented the School’s novel, yet comprehensive, undergraduate assessment process.
She earned a Ph.D. in Business from Columbia University, an M.B.A. from Lehigh University and a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University. Boroff is a member of the Acadamy of Management.
In addition to her academic career, Boroff was employed by AT&T for 11 years, where she served in various managerial capacities and was a labor negotiator.
