Medallion for Entrepreneurship Recipients - 2011

The Entrepreneurship Medallion is awarded to outstanding individuals who combine innovative business achievement with service to humanity. The individuals’ accomplishments may have taken place anywhere in the world, but must be consistent with the ideals of Beta Gamma Sigma. The BGS Medallion for Entrepreneurship was established to provide appropriate recognition to those individuals and firms that contribute significantly to the vitality and strength of the economy, combining innovative business achievement with service to humanity.

Gerianne Tringali DiPiano
Founder, President, CEO and Chairman, FemmePharma Global Healthcare, Inc.
Nominated by: Saint Joseph’s University

A nationally renowned women’s health expert, Gerianne Tringali DiPiano serves as president and CEO of FemmePharma Global Healthcare, Inc. and is chairman of its Board of Directors. DiPiano founded the company in 1996 in response to the industry’s narrow focus on women’s health needs.

With more than 30 years’ experience in the healthcare industry, DiPiano’s background spans many facets of the pharmaceutical industry including sales, marketing, market and systems planning, medical affairs, new product development, licensing and business development at several multinational companies.

DiPiano has been a finalist in the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Greater Philadelphia Region in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and has been recognized in “People to Watch in 2004” by Philadelphia Magazine.

 

Blake Mycoskie
Founder and Chief Shoe Giver, TOMS Shoes, Inc.
Nominated by: University of Hartford

Under Blake Mycoskie’s leadership, the TOMS Shoes One for One movement has given over 1,000,000 pairs of new shoes to children in need through giving partners around the world.

In 2007, only a year after its founding, TOMS Shoes was honored with the prestigious People’s Design Award from the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, Smithsonian Institution. Two years later, Mycoskie was honored with the Secretary of State’s 2009 Award for Corporate Excellence. The award celebrates companies’ commitment to corporate social responsibility, innovation, exemplary practices, and democratic values worldwide.

Mycoskie is a sought-after speaker at campuses and conferences. He is passionate about inspiring young people to help make tomorrow better, encouraging them to include giving in everything they do, from business practices to day-to-day decisions.

 

Rex Sinquefield
Co-founder, Dimensional Fund Advisors Inc.
Nominated by: Saint Louis University

One of the world’s leading financial gurus, Rex Sinquefield now spends most of his time and resources dedicated to philanthropic causes.
Sinquefield developed some of the nation’s first index funds, which trust rather than “outsmart” the market. In 1981 Sinquefield co-founded Dimensional Fund Advisors, which today oversees $100 billion in global assets.

Since retiring in 2005, Sinquefield co-founded the Show-Me Institute, a not-for-profit free-market think tank. In 2007, Sinquefeild provided the seed capital for the creation of The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis, a destination for both new and seasoned chess players in St. Louis.

Sinquefield is a life trustee of DePaul University and serves on the boards of the Missouri Botanical Garden, Missouri History Museum, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Saint Louis Art Museum, St. Louis Symphony and Saint Louis University. He also serves as a director of the St. Vincent Home for Children.
