Beta Gamma Sigma Names Brian Duperreault Business Achievement Award Recipient

Beta Gamma Sigma, the international business honor society, recently named Brian Duperreault, president and CEO, Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc., a recipient of its 2009 Business Achievement Award. The honor is awarded annually to individuals who have made significant accomplishments in business and contributions to the community.

“We are pleased to present this honor to Mr. Duperreault,” said George E. Stevens, president of Beta Gamma Sigma. “He has been an exemplary leader and a generous supporter of the community.”

Duperreault was nominated for the Beta Gamma Sigma Business Achievement Award by Saint Joseph’s University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1969. He is one of four recipients of this year’s award. The other 2009 recipients are Raymond G. Chambers, founder, Amelior Foundation; Adm. Thad W. Allen, commandant, U.S. Coast Guard; and Joe Max Green, chairman, Joe Max Green/Insurance Concepts.

In his more than 30 years in the insurance industry, Duperreault has assumed a number of executive and leadership roles. Prior to joining Marsh & McLennan in 2008, he spent 10 years as CEO of insurer ACE Limited and a member of the company’s board of directors. Under Duperreault’s leadership, the firm grew and transformed from a boutique, specialty insurer into a global enterprise through many significant acquisitions.

Before his tenure at ACE, he was employed at American International Group, AIG. He held various senior titles, including executive vice president, chairman and CEO of American International Underwriters Inc., AIU, and CEO of AIG affiliates in Japan and Korea.

Throughout his career, Duperreault has been involved with many organizations and causes. He serves on the boards of the Center on Philanthropy, Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences and the International Insurance Society. Duperreault has also served his alma mater, Saint Joseph’s University, chairing the university’s board of trustees and the board’s development and campaign planning committees.

Beta Gamma Sigma established the Business Achievement Award in 1998. Individuals are nominated by Beta Gamma Sigma deans, faculty advisors and members of the board of governors. They are selected based on their significant accomplishment(s) in business, contributions to the community, and ability to establish themselves as models of ethical business leadership. Recipients are announced to the Society during the International Honoree Luncheon at the Annual Meeting of AACSB International each spring.
