The Outstanding Chapter Advisor Award recognizes the outstanding performance of Beta Gamma Sigma’s chapter advisors and administrators. Beta Gamma Sigma is pleased to recognize Dr. Susan Borkowski, Professor of Accounting, La Salle University as the 2009 Outstanding Chapter Advisor.
The Mission of the International Honor Society Beta Gamma Sigma is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business, to foster personal and professional excellence, to advance the values of the Society, and to serve its lifelong members.
In her 13 years as the La Salle Univeristy Beta Gamma Sigma collegiate chapter advisor, Dr. Susan Borkowski has exemplified this mission.
The first and only chapter advisor to serve the La Salle University chapter, Borkowski has worked diligently to advance the value of membership for students, faculty and alumni and has continuously motivated members to achieve their personal best. These efforts have resulted in various chapter honors, including the selection as a 2009 Outstanding Chapter Honorable Mention. This year’s recognition marks the seventh time since 2001 that the La Salle University chapter has been selected as an Outstanding Chapter.
She has driven several initiatives and activities that have heightened the Society’s visibility on campus, while increasing member engagement. Every year the chapter invites recently inducted undergraduates to serve as mentors to freshmen enrolled in an introductory business course. The curriculum requires student teams to create and present a business plan to a panel of executives and recently inducted MBA students. Various chapter activities, including the staffing of informational table for Founders’ Week and the co-sponsoring of a business ethics lecture have communicated the benefits and values of the Society to potential members.
Borkowski’s efforts have proved successful in raising awareness about the Society. Under her leadership, the chapter has consistently reported overall acceptance rates in excess of 85 percent, qualifying the school for the Society’s matching scholarship program, and earning the chapter premier status.
Borkowski joined La Salle University in 1989. She regularly teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses in managerial and cost accounting, and accounting information systems. In addition to her role as Beta Gamma Sigma collegiate chapter advisor, Borkowski is also the SAP Curriculum Coordinator and Faculty Liaison for the University. Prior to teaching at La Salle, Borkowski was staff assistant for budget and finance to Vice President Walter Mondale in Washington, D.C.
Beta Gamma Sigma thanks Susan Borkowski for her continued dedication to the Society and service to his students, and congratulates her for earning recognition as the 2009 Outstanding Chapter Advisor!
