Marielle Heijltjes

Maastricht University’s School of Business and Economics

Prof. dr. Mariëlle G. Heijltjes serves as a Full Professor of Managerial Behavior and the Associate Dean of Strategic Development and Internationalization at Maastricht University’s School of Business and Economics. She is also the Executive Director UMIO in The Netherlands. In her current roles at Maastricht University, Heijltjes combines the managerial responsibilities of being a Board member of the School of Business and Economics (SBE) and leading UMIO (Professional Development) with designing and delivering executive education in the field of leadership. Within the Board, she is responsible for SBE’s internationalization strategy and the effective collaboration of SBE with 150 partner schools in 42 countries.


Heijltjes obtained a MSc in Economics and Business Administration and a PhD in Organization and Strategy from Maastricht University. She has extensive international experience working with executives and top management teams on questions relating to their effectiveness. Her clients have included APG, Daimler, Philips Healthcare, Unilever, Vodafone and World Bank as well as smaller nationally operating organizations. She has taught in the executive MBA programs of Maastricht University, TRIUM (HEC Paris, LSE, Stern School of Business at NYU), and Reykjavik University. Heijltjes’ research on the behavior of (top) managers was published in international academic journals such as: the Academy of Management Review, Small Group Research, the Journal of International Business Studies and Organization Studies. She is frequently invited as a speaker, panelist or moderator at different events and programs worldwide.
