Dr. McRae (Mac) C. Banks joined the Bryan School of Business and Economics at UNC-Greensboro as Dean in 2011and is the Margaret and Harrell Hill Professor of Entrepreneurship. Under his leadership, a new vision and mission were developed for the Bryan School, driving numerous changes. The AACSB dual-accredited Bryan School is now nationally recognized as an up-and-coming business school. In addition to impressive rankings and accolades, changes within the School include: substantially increased enrollment (+33%); a rise in student retention and graduation rates; improved diversity in the School; and increased faculty productivity in scholarship and research. With a focus on preparing students to be exceptional problem solvers in organizations, in 2016-17 alone, over 1,300 students participated in industry linked hands-on projects.
Banks has an extensive history of demonstrating leadership. Prior to his current appointment, he served in a dean-equivalent position as head of the Department of Management at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (1995-2010). He has served on the Board of Directors and as international president for the Society of Advancement of Management. He also chaired the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management and the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Division of the American Society for Engineering Education. Presently, Banks chairs the AACSB Continuous Improvement Review Committee and is a member of AACSB’s Committee on Accreditation Policy.
