The Master Class Series

Our first Master Class Series took place in Dallas, TX November 3, 2016. Designed for our alumni members, the Series focuses on helping cultivate charismatic leadership while further developing authenticity, charisma, motivation, influence, and emotional intelligence. Information shared at The Master Class Series will help our members continue their professional development throughout their careers and at all levels of leadership.

Transformational Leadership with Dr. Alex Sevilla

Transformational leaders are able to utilize an exceptional brand of influence in order to unlock greatness within the teams they are entrusted to lead. These leaders are able to inspire followers to above and beyond performance, and in doing so, they transform people, process and outcomes. Transformational leaders utilize authenticity, charisma, motivation, influence, and emotional intelligence to build elite level relationships that lead to elite level performance.

Transformational leadership is not restricted to the corner office. The core principles of transformational leadership can be utilized at all levels of leadership, and can be particularly effective early in one’s professional career. This conference is especially designed for aspiring leaders seek to transform into emerging leaders, thereby broadening their organizational impact while simultaneously accelerating their personal leadership journey.

 

Objectives:

When Master Class participants complete this session, they will be able to…

1. Assess and distinguish between various leadership styles, serving as a primer for understanding the tenets of transformational leadership.

2. Understand the tangible difference between transactional and transformational leadership.

3. Develop a working framework for delivering transformational leader results using the 4 I’s of Transformational Leadership mode.

4. Apply specific emotional intelligence concepts to improve both self and social awareness transformational leadership abilities 

5. Learn about the core characteristics of teambuilding, influence and charisma, and identify specific ways to develop these core tools of the transformational leader

6. Apply transformational leadership concepts to improve:

  • Personal growth and development
  • One-on-one level engagement with colleagues
  • Team level performance
  • Overall impact within your organization

 

ABOUT DR. SEVILLA

ASSOCIATE DEAN & DIRECTOR, HEAVENER SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA

 

Dr. Alex Sevilla is the Associate Dean and Director of the Heavener School of Business (HSB) at the University of Florida. In this role, Dr. Sevilla leads strategy and operations for UF’s undergraduate school of business, which supports over 4,000 students in the areas of academic advising, career coaching, leadership development, international study immersions and career management. Dr. Sevilla and the HSB team are also responsible for enrollment management, curriculum innovation, corporate relations, alumni affairs, UF online and representing the Heavener School of Business across campus, throughout the U.S. and globally.

From 2005 to 2016, Dr. Sevilla served as the Assistant Dean and Director of UF MBA Programs at UF’s Warrington College of Business Administration. Dr. Sevilla led UF’s suite of (9) MBA program offerings, including full-time, executive, professional, online, and off campus MBA programs. During his tenure, Florida developed a unique market position for its MBA brand, which led to 125% growth in enrollment, and nearly quadrupling of program revenue, making the UF MBA one of the largest and strongest programs in the U.S. His team’s efforts to raise program quality across the MBA portfolio enabled UF MBA to secure a premier position among the world’s best MBA programs, as defined by U.S. News & World Report, Bloomberg Businessweek, Financial Times, The Economist, and Forbes. By placing a clear priority on maximizing the student experience in all facets of program operations, the UF MBA program earned consistent praise from students and alumni for overall program satisfaction. This positive feedback helped UF MBA earn the #1 ranking for Best Administered MBA in the U.S. (among 295 schools), as recognized by The Princeton Review in 2013 and 2014.

Dr. Sevilla teaches leadership courses for the Heavener School of Business at UF. He also consults in industry, focusing his efforts in the areas of transformational leadership, emotional intelligence, influence, trust, leading teams and leading change. Dr. Sevilla is a frequent speaker on campus, sharing leadership knowledge with students wherever possible, via organizations such as the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars Program, the Institute of Hispanic-Latino Cultures, Alpha Kappa Psi, and the UF Graduate School.

Dr. Sevilla has served as a presenter and consultant on topics such as the future of the MBA, business school branding, on-line MBA program innovations, and market growth strategies. In 2009, Sevilla was appointed to the Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC) Board of Directors and served as chairman of the GMAC Board of Directors in 2010-11. He also served as the Chairperson for the GMAC Annual Industry Conference in 2009.

Dr. Sevilla earned his doctorate in organizational leadership from Pepperdine University in 2014. His dissertation research focused on the impact of personality and emotional intelligence on the career success of MBA and specialized masters graduates. He earned his BBA and MBA from the University of Miami, where he majored in marketing and human resource management.
