About Dr. Tatiana Kukova

My name is Dr. Tatiana Kukova, and I hold a Ph.D. in Social Psychology of Entrepreneurship from the Department of Economics, Finance and Entrepreneurship, Aston Business School (ABS), Aston University, Birmingham, UK.

Apart from my involvement in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses UK program at Aston Centre for Growth and the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) project, I have also carried out market research at Innovation Birmingham, the United Kingdom Science Park Association (UKSPA), and another academic research with the members of the BSEEN (the Birmingham Skills for Enterprise and Employability Network) startup program.

When I was pursuing my doctorate, my research interests revolved around identity and roles in the startup ecosystem, especially the tech founder’s role. That is why the UK’s Enterprise Research Centre (ERC) adopted my insights into entrepreneurial identity to the Sociology of Enterprise research project.

In addition to my research endeavors, I was engaged in university teaching and learning by delivering Entrepreneurial Strategy to undergraduates at ABS and Project Management to the final year undergraduates at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Aston University, for more than five years. That was done in association with ABS. I was also an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) in the UK because of my teaching practice.

It was not the first time I had studied roles in organizations. Prior to my doctoral research, I did the Master of Science (MSc) Degree in International Travel and Tourism Management at the Oxford School of Hospitality Management, Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, England. My MSc project was devoted to ‘The Evolution of the Financial Controller’s Role in Hotels.’ That was an interview-based study with senior executives of the leading hotels in the UK.

Overall, I have 11 years of UK academic experience and became a lifetime member of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) in the US when I completed my Ph.D.

In 2020, I became an author in America. Following that, in January 2021, I held a webinar for the Oxford Brookes London Alumni Chapter, organized by Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, England. The title of the event was “Social Psychology of Entrepreneurship: What Startup Entrepreneurs Think About Themselves and How It Influences Their Entrepreneurial Actions.”

Most recently, I have been invited as a guest speaker for the Aston Global Advantage professional development program that runs throughout an MSc course at Aston Business School (ABS) in Birmingham, England. I have carried out two webinars, which were from two to two and a half hours in length.
