Betty Jo Licata, dean of the Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University, was recently elected Chair of the Board of Governors for the International Honor Society Beta Gamma Sigma.
Elections for officer and board-member positions took place at the society’s Biennial Meeting on April 7, 2014. Licata will serve a two-year term.
Licata has been a board member since 2007. In her tenure, she served as secretary treasurer, vice president and president-elect.
Licata takes the Chair position at an integral time for Beta Gamma Sigma. The organization is currently in the midst of a strategic transition to revamp, rebrand and rejuvenate the society. Licata is anticipating a stronger organization with better communication, engagement and strategies that she’s prepared to steer.
“Changes can be a challenge, but we’re committed to communicating them broadly and deeply, and providing collegiate alumni and chapters with as many tools and resource materials as they need to be successful,” Licata said.
BGS Executive Director James Viehland acknowledged Licata’s continued efforts to enhance the organization and its members.
“She has encouraged students to do their best, and helped them along the way,” Viehland said of Licata’s involvement with BGS. “All of that has come to fruition in such a nice way with her now leading Beta Gamma Sigma.”
Prior to becoming dean at YSU, Licata was dean of the Dahikemper School of Business Administration at Gannon University and Associate Dean at Ohio University’s college of business administration. Currently, she serves as co-chair of the Public Sector/Education division of the Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way. She is a member of the Humility of Mary Health Partners Board of Trustees, the Mahoning Valley Labor-Management Committee and more. Licata earned her BA from the State University of New York at Geneseo. She earned her MBA and Ph.D. in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
