The Beta Gamma Sigma International Honoree Award is selected annually by the BGS Board of Governors. Winners are selected from nominated founders and c-suite executives who are making a difference in their industry. These individuals exemplify the values on which Beta Gamma Sigma is founded and further the Society’s ideals through outstanding business and managerial leadership.



Mike C. Kaufmann 

Healthcare leader, board member, former Fortune 15 CEO & DE&I Champion

Mike C. Kaufmann is a board member of and advisor to both public and private companies, a former Fortune 15 CEO and CFO, and an active advocate and executive speaker on leadership and diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I).

He spent 32 years of his career at Cardinal Health, a global, integrated healthcare solutions company providing vital products, world class services and customized solutions for providers along the continuum of care. He spent the last five years as CEO leading the company to record revenues, driving improvements in its portfolio and cost structure, and managing through the impacts of Covid, particularly those on employees and the supply chain. Over the years, he served in a wide range of executive leadership positions within operations, sourcing, sales, finance and general management. Prior to being CEO, he was Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Known throughout his career for his creativity and grit, Kaufmann thrives on cultivating, establishing and nurturing strong relationships. As a longtime DE&I champion, he was intentional in embedding DE&I initiatives within the fabric of the enterprise to ensure progress could thrive well beyond his tenure. 

Kaufmann currently serves as a member of the board of directors for MSC Industrial Supply, SAFE Health Systems, Monitored Therapeutics, Ember Life Sciences, RNA Disease Diagnostics and Prescribe FIT. He is also on the advisory boards of HealthQuest Capital, RKTech, Cleveland Clinic Ventures and Celonis. Previously, Kaufmann served on the boards of Red Oak Sourcing, Ohio Northern University, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS), the Healthcare Distribution Association (HDA) and the National Veterans Memorial and Museum; and was a member of the Columbus Partnership’s executive committee, where he co-led the Partnership’s DEI work.

He has been honored as CEO of the Year by Columbus CEO, Most Admired C-Suite Executive by Columbus Business First, Honorable Mentor of the Year by HBA and by others for his work in DEI. The Bellwether League Foundation recognized him for his work in Healthcare Supply Chain Leadership and the Healthcare Distributors Association awarded him their Nexus award for Lifetime Achievement.
